Drinking Water Reduces Toxins and Alleviates Inflammation

Drinking water is the most important fluid you can ingest

Drinking water is the most important fluid you can ingest to reduce toxins in the body and surprisingly, water is one of the top ways to reduce inflammation as well.

Inflammation is a condition which can become chronic in the body if it is allowed to go unchecked or unmanaged. Additionally, inflammation is at the core of many chronic health conditions and is a sign that toxins are lodged in the body which in turn, affects organ function.

When toxins are not flushed out of the body, it can lead to an autoimmune response affecting any one of these areas of the body: the brain, cardiovascular, muscles, bones, skin, thyroid, lungs, GI tract, kidneys, and liver. Many autoimmune diseases result in chronic inflammation where the immune system generates an inflammatory response to the body’s own tissues. The body reacts as if normal tissues are infected and therefore these tissues are attacked.

It’s important to understand the cause of inflammation since there are so many health conditions and diseases that are caused by chronic inflammation in today’s society.

There are 7 factors that cause inflammation that could lead to chronic diseases according to Dr. David Jockers, DNM, DC, MS who is a doctor of natural medicine, functional nutritionist, and corrective care chiropractor. Dr. Jockers currently owns and operates the Exodus Health Center in Kennesaw, Georgia where he helps empower people with science based solutions and options for optimum health. The 7 factors are:  Eating inflammatory foods; blood sugar imbalances; leaky gut syndrome; chronic stress; poor sleep habits; environmental toxins; and chronic infections. The western diet is full of refined sugars and starches, processed foods, and toxic fats like trans-fats as well as sugary soft drinks and caffeine laced drinks.

Although the body has a natural detoxification system, it can’t keep up with the consistent onslaught of toxins absorbed into the body from the food we eat or as a result of not drinking enough water. In this article 10 Daily Detoxification Strategies,  Dr. Jockers,  gives some excellent advice to avoid the toxic build up. It’s not just one action that will help maintain a toxic free body and he suggests a daily practice to keep the build-up to a minimum.

Dr. Jockers suggests that the first step to eliminating toxins from the diet is to remove all sugars and grains because they stimulate insulin release which causes a shift towards fat storage and increased inflammatory conditions. Plus, the body would be more effective at eliminating toxins if they were cut out of the diet. Instead, he recommends that meals should be built around fat sources, anti-oxidants, clean proteins and fiber. Refer to his pyramid chart here.

Drinking fluids that hydrate is the first on the list of 10 Daily Detoxification Strategies. Drink half of your body weight of clean filtered water on a daily basis. By adding lemon, lime, or apple cider vinegar to your water, it augments getting rid of toxic build-up in the body. Water is considered “a miracle” because it alleviates heart pumping to efficiently get enough oxygen to your muscles. Drinking sufficient water also allows red blood cells to carry oxygen effectively leading to better muscular function and mental clarity. Also, water lubricates joints and makes the skin smooth. Water prevents memory loss with age and it reduces addictive urges. Plus, it removes toxic wastes form the body by way of the liver and kidneys, the main organs responsible for detoxification. Without water, waste and toxins cannot be removed through the elimination process of urination and bowel movements. Lastly, water assists in cellular repair.

The second recommendation is implementing an anti-inflammatory diet where grains, sugars, bad fats and processed meat are eliminated out of your diet. Instead, include in your diet non-starchy vegetables, low-glycemic fruits such as lemons, limes, grapefruit, berries, and granny smith apples. For proteins, eat organic meat. Good fats should be added as well which is coconut, grass-fed butter or ghee, olives, olive oil and avocados. Herbs can be used liberally as well as fermented foods and tonics like apple cider vinegar.

Intermittent fasting is also recommended by Dr. Jockers and it can be a simple fast to one that is longer and more complex. Fasting is advisable because the body rests and has a chance to eliminate toxins. During the fasting period, it is important to drink cleansing beverages which can include herbal teas, lots of water infused with superfood extracts, and water with lemon or apple cider vinegar. Taking water during a fast with these additional options added enhances the cleansing process since anti-oxidants and micronutrients promote healing and detoxification. Dr. Jockers explains the Best Intermittent Fasting Strategies & How to Fast here at this link.

Regular exercise helps in the elimination of toxins as well. It actually assists in the detoxification through the 4 major systems such as: Perspiration; Urination; Respiration; and Excretion. Actions like drinking water and regular exercise assists the 4 major detoxification pathways and will help to rid the body of toxins faster. Constipation caused from not drinking enough water, eating enough fiber, or doing enough exercise, will cause the potent toxins in the body to stagnate. Bowel movements should occur 2-3 times daily otherwise, the digested food putrefies causing bad microbes to build-up which leads to inflammation.

The next six strategies for detoxification are: Juice Greens or Use Greens Powders; Use and InfraRed Sauna; Use Essential Oils; Practice Oil Pulling; Improve Your Gut Motility; and Use Activated Charcoal. Read more about them here.

By keeping the toxic build-up in one’s body to a minimum on a daily basis, then good health will prevail and longevity will be within reach. One fact is certain, drinking water has an important role in not only removing toxins from the body but also reducing inflammation, thereby, making a healthy, vibrant life possible.
